How it all began...
We first got involved with Labs in 2003 when we purchased Rider from a small back yard breeder in Clare, Michigan. Rider is a field/pet bred Labrador.

In the beginning, we will quickly admit that we did not do enough research about the Labrador breed. Rider was much too young to leave his litter (6 weeks), the parents didn’t have their health clearances, and we were not as fully prepared to deal with a high energy dog as we thought we were.

Nevertheless, Rider quickly stole our hearts as did the Labrador breed. Rider’s drive and stamina are incredible. He is an extremely versatile dog. Rider’s gentle temperament and high working drive make him one of the best companions one could ever hope for. Rider has tried just about every performance activity that a dog could. He’s titled in Agility, Rally obedience, Dock Diving, has his Canine Good Citizen’s certificate, and is a certified Therapy Dog. We are working toward his UKC Started Hunting Retriever (SHR) title, his AKC Junior Hunter (JH) title, and UKC and AKC Agility work. We will continue to explore every opportunity for this amazing dog to excel in the performance areas.

In February of 2005, we helped to found Central Michigan Labrador Rescue Network, Inc. Having Rider in our lives made us want to help other Labradors who did not have as wonderful of a life as Rider did. To date, we’ve helped rescue and place over 200 Labrador Retrievers.

In 2006, we began to search out opportunities to acquire a show potential Labrador puppy. Initially, we were set on another chocolate puppy. We researched so many pedigrees, talked to a lot of breeders and looked at a lot of dogs at shows and on the web. We almost became resigned to the fact we would never get the opportunity to show a Labrador in conformation when we found the Nicki/Travis litter which was whelped by Jeanine Asch at Endeavor Labradors, in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

In April of 2007, we were offered the opportunity to co-own Rookie by Jeanine of Endeavor Labradors. Even though Rookie is still a young puppy, he’s already proven that his potential is unlimited. He’s doing water retrieves and is the current star of his puppy obedience class. He made his ring debut in the Non Licensed Puppy class at the Great Lakes Labrador Lovers Specialty (UKC) on June 9. Rookie will be working on his hunt titles this year along side Rider.

Our belief regarding Labradors is that they should be a well rounded and balanced, working dog. We work very hard to have our dogs emulate this philosophy.

We are not currently looking to breed, as our dogs have not passed the proper clearances to be considered for breeding (and Rider is neutered). Check back with us in the future for stud information and breeding plans.

We are members of the Mount Pleasant, Michigan Kennel Club, an AKC approved club which sponsors an AKC sanctioned All Breed show annually at which we volunteer as stewards. We also belong to the Huron River Labrador Retriever Club, an AKC approved breed club.

We also belong to Dog Tales, Inc. A dog club where Certified Therapy dogs are paired up with children for reading programs.

We are advocates for the proper training, owning and breeding of the Labrador breed. We rescue, train and compete with our dogs...but at the end of the day, they are first and foremost our beloved pets and our constant companions, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
